Family, associates mourn Okoya-Thomas








Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas
Close family members, employees, the Nigerian manufacturing industry and the nation in general, on Monday mourned the Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas.

According to family sources, Okoya-Thomas passed away on Sunday, February 1. He was 79.

His daughter, Jumoke, told our correspondent on the telephone that the industrialist was ill sometime in December, but had recovered and was back in form until Sunday.

Tears as freed 21 Chibok girls meet VP Osinbajo

There were strong indications on Thursday that the Federal Government freed some top Boko Haram commanders for the 21 Chibok girls, who were released by the insurgents at Banki, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon. The released girls were among the over 200 schoolgirls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014. Most of the girls wept profusely when Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo met them on Thursday at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services after the girls’ arrival in the Federal Capital Territory. The 21 girls were released after 913 days in captivity. A security source said five Boko Haram commanders were released in exchange for the 21 Chibok girls. FG RELAXES CONDITION FOR N220BN MSME FUND

The Federal Government has slashed the collateral requirement introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria for banks to access the N220bn intervention fund for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector from 75 per cent to 50 per cent. The decision was taken at the second meeting of the National Council on MSMEs presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. Before the downward review, part of the conditions for banks to access the N220bn fund was the need for them to collaterise whatever amount they were applying for from the CBN to the tune of 75 per cent. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, announced the decision at a press briefing held at the end of the meeting.
