18 YEAR OLD WOMAN FORCED INTO MARRIAGE KILLS HUSBAND IN KANO

An 18-year-old woman who was allegedly forced to marry a man she did not love, is said to have killed her husband in Kano on Wednesday. According to Vanguard , the woman, Rahma Hussaini and the deceased, 24-year-old Tijjani Basiru had just gotten married on Friday, February 20th. The couple’s neighbours told newsmen that their union was a forced marriage. Speaking on the incident, Isa Alhassan said , “we were alarmed by a frightening scream of a subdued man in need of rescue and we rushed to the scene only to  discover that the man of the house was in the pool of his blood… neighbours mobilized and took the groom to the hospital but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.” Policeman Magaji Musa Majia , also confirmed the incident: At about 1000hrs one Rahma Hussaini of Darmunawa quarters stabbed her husband, one Tijjani M Basiru on his stomach with a knife and was rushed to AKTH. Hussaini has been taken into police custody.  

BOKO HARAM KIDNAPS ADAMAWA COUNCIL VICE CHAIRMAN

The Adamawa State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the abduction of the Vice Chairman of Hong Local Government, Bijida Yakubu, by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said three vigilante members that were with Mr. Yakubu lost their lives in the encounter. Mr. Abubakar, who did not give details, however, said the police officers investigating the incident have so far recovered the vice chairman’s shoes. A resident of Hong who simply identified himself as Hussaini said that the incident occurred in Gayafa Village of the area. “You know, insurgents attacked the village last week. The vice chairman who hailed from the village was on an assessment visit with some hunters when the insurgents attacked and over-powered them. “About seven insurgents were killed in the encounter before they over-powered the hunters and took away the vice chairman,” he said. FG RELAXES CONDITION FOR N220BN MSME FUND

The Federal Government has slashed the collateral requirement introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria for banks to access the N220bn intervention fund for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector from 75 per cent to 50 per cent. The decision was taken at the second meeting of the National Council on MSMEs presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. Before the downward review, part of the conditions for banks to access the N220bn fund was the need for them to collaterise whatever amount they were applying for from the CBN to the tune of 75 per cent. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, announced the decision at a press briefing held at the end of the meeting. He said the decision was taken based on the recommendations of a sub-committee chaired by the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar, and contribution made by the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. G

Some retired senior military officers have lashed out at the Defence Headquarters for describing former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an embarrassment to the military institution. The Defence Headquarters in a remark on its Facebook page on Monday had accused the former President of politicising serious national security and military issues. The military authorities were reacting   to a statement credited to the former President that the general elections were postponed to enable President Goodluck Jonathan to use the Service Chiefs for tenure extension in an electronic mail on Monday.
